Mayumi Uejima Carr
President of TABLE FOR TWO USA
Mayumi is guided by the belief that food is medicine. Her passion is helping people develop a joyful and healthy relationship with food. She envisions a world where everyone can access nutritious food and is equipped with the skills to prepare and enjoy delicious and balanced meals.
As President of TABLE FOR TWO USA (TFT), a nonprofit organization originally from Japan, Mayumi leads efforts to tackle both hunger and diet-related health issues. She spearheads two award-winning programs: “Onigiri (Rice Ball) Action,” which has provided over 10 million school meals to children in need, and “Wa-Sho – Learn. Cook. Eat Japanese!,” a food education initiative promoting healthy habits in partnership with over 100 schools across the U.S. ranging from elementary to university level. She published a book globally titled “Japanese Cooking with Kids,” which shares the core concepts and hands-on recipes behind TFT’s food education program. The book has been shortlisted for the 31st Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2025—often called “the Oscars of the cookbook world.”
Mayumi’s journey with TFT builds on a prior career in consulting and marketing at Accenture and Eli Lilly. She holds a degree from Keio University, an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and received a fellowship for the US-Japan Leadership Program and the “Leadership for System Change: Delivering Social Impact at Scale” program at Harvard Kennedy School. She resides in San Diego, California, with her husband, 15-year-old daughter (the enthusiastic President of “TFT Kids”), and 13-year-old son.
